How to work out an estimate without your calculator

The trick to working out an estimate is to round all the numbers off in the sum to 1 significant figure. So in the first example you are asked to find an estimation to 438.175 x 6.754. 428.175 gets rounded to the nearest 100 which is 400. 6.754 gets rounded to the nearest whole number which is 7.
